RULES

  • Entries have to be of a single image taken with a microscope and not significantly altered.
  • There is no restriction with respect to the subject matter.
  • Electron and ion micrographs have to be black and white.

In 2017, 77 entries were submitted. The entries came from: Japan, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Finland, China, and Belgium.

The judges were:

Title: Nano Gold Riding Hood

Description: A scratched gold film from which a 𝜇-man raise. It wears a hood and a finely-crafted scarf, carrying freshly cut timber.

Description: This agile ninja is made of graphene. It was found after processing electrochemically a sample consisting in epitaxial graphene grown on a silicon carbide substrate.
